Siemens Energy Services Limited announces the purchase of the B-Smart™ family of Software Products from Generis Technology Limited.
In August 2003, Siemens Energy Services Limited were awarded one of the new British Gas Trading Data Collection / Meter Reading licences for significant sectors of the British Gas portfolio, particularly in the South-East of England.
Siemens are without doubt one of the country’s leading Utility Services companies, supplying both Meters and Metering Services to the UK Utility Industry. It is not an accident therefore that British Gas Trading chose Siemens to be a key Data Collection partner, as part of the Meter De-liberalisation arrangements recently introduced into the UK Gas Market.
This latest aspect of UK de-regulation brings with it significant challenges, not least in terms of the supporting I.T. Systems. It is necessary for Siemens not only to manage their Meter Reading activities, but also to participate in electronic Data Flow communication between them, British Gas and other Market Participants.
In support of these I.T. Systems requirements, Siemens have chosen the B-Smart™ suite of products from Generis Technology Limited. Specifically, Siemens will utilise the Contract Management, Job Management, and Meter Reading Management modules of the system. In addition to the facilities provided by B-Smart™, Siemens have also contracted with Generis Technology to provide the necessary interfaces with Siemens legacy portfolio and field systems.
Thanks to the high degree of co-operation between Siemens Energy Services and Generis Technology, the B-Smart™ elements required for the Data Collection (Meter Reading) phase, and the associated Siemens Field Systems interfaces were completed, tested and implemented in a period of only five months.
The new implementation commenced live running on 22nd December 2003.
“B-Smart is a world class meter software suite that will hopefully be able to handle all our metering needs.”
