Generis continue to develop Smart Metering Messaging Standards

In the U.K, Generis have been continuing to explore how B-Smart can deliver benefits associated with the deployment of Smart Metering.


By enhancing the underlying technical architecture, and introducing two new components, namely, Radiant a communications and web service hub, and Smart Meter Manager (SMM), B-Smart is now able to support both smart and non-smart devices via a consistent interface and approach.

The components are not reliant upon a 3rd party bureau service, thus enabling the licensee to communicate with the smart device incurring only those charges levied by their chosen communications provider.

This new platform facilitates communication with any device via SMS, modem or internet for which an input or output message format can be defined.

B-Smart clients utilising the new architecture and licensing Radiant/SMM are able to implement smart metering ahead of industry standardisation, thus gaining potential competitive advantage within the market whilst at the same time supporting Ofgem, EU and Government led initiatives for: - 

  • Vulnerable Customers 
  • Carbon Emissions Reduction 
  • Security of Supply

Furthermore, the client is not tied to a specific: 

  • Communications method 
  • Manufacturer 
  • Message format

And in addition the architecture can be utilised to provide mobile marketing, customer service and mobile commerce.

Generis are currently in discussions with 3 major meter manufacturers in relation to the adoption of standards in messaging in Smart Metering
